A Vermont woman was arrested Friday after police say she was driving drunk and resisting arrest while wanted on an outstanding warrant.
According to Vermont State Police, troopers in St. Johnsbury were alerted by Grafton County, New Hampshire dispatch that a woman wanted in Vermont was driving intoxicated and heading toward the state line in Newbury. Troopers soon spotted the vehicle in Wells River and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. Route 302 and U.S. Route 5.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Brigette Elliott, was found to have an active warrant for failing to appear in court on previous charges of negligent operation and resisting arrest. Police said Elliott showed clear signs of alcohol impairment, and when troopers attempted to take her into custody, she resisted arrest.
Elliott was transported to the St. Johnsbury barracks for processing and later lodged at the Northeast Correctional Complex on $200 bail. She is scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Court on October 14 for the warrant charges and in Orange County Court on October 27 to answer to new charges of DUI and resisting arrest.
