A violent Saturday night across New England left multiple people shot, hospitalized, and displaced after a string of incidents from Massachusetts to Connecticut.
In Beverly, Massachusetts, one woman was rushed to the hospital after a shooting on Simon Street around 7:17 p.m., according to police. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside a home. She was taken by ambulance before being airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Her condition has not been released. Police say no arrests have been made but believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there’s no ongoing threat to the public.
In Braintree, police are hunting three armed suspects who robbed a food delivery driver late Friday night and stole his car. The victim told police he was held up by three males with handguns after making a delivery on Skyline Drive around 10 p.m. His stolen Nissan Maxima was later found abandoned nearby with the engine running and the door open. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and urging anyone with information to contact them at 781-794-8620.
Boston saw another burst of gunfire Saturday afternoon when three people were shot in Mattapan. Police responded to Hiawatha Road around 1:20 p.m. after multiple 911 calls. Two men and one woman were rushed to area hospitals. The woman, initially in critical condition, is now listed as serious. The men’s injuries were not life-threatening. Police say more than 30 shell casings were recovered at the scene, and no arrests have been made.
In Stamford, Connecticut, three people were injured in a violent crash early Sunday morning on Long Ridge Road. Investigators say a Nissan SUV was pulling out of a parking lot when it was hit by a northbound Volkswagen. The Nissan’s driver, a 39-year-old Norwalk resident, suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated. Two people in the Volkswagen sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All were taken to Stamford Hospital.
Hours earlier in Groton, Connecticut, four people were hospitalized and dozens displaced after flames tore through a large apartment complex on Broad Street Extension. Firefighters arrived to find residents trapped on balconies as smoke poured from upper floors. Crews cut a hole in the roof to fight the blaze, which officials say started on the third or fourth floor. At least one pet died, but several others were rescued. The Red Cross is helping residents from 75 apartments find temporary housing as investigators work to determine the cause.
Police and fire investigators across the region say all incidents remain under investigation.
