A 29-year-old Kenyan national and lawful permanent resident was arrested earlier this month in Buffalo on a federal charge of unlawful possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
Aden Ibrahim was taken into custody on July 9 by personnel from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Buffalo and the Buffalo Police Department.
According to investigators, Buffalo Police responded to a local residence that morning following a report of an “unwelcomed guest.” The complainant told officers that an individual known as “Beano” refused to leave and was allegedly in possession of crack cocaine and a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers observed the individual exit the residence and attempt to flee on foot. He was found to be carrying a U.S. permanent resident card identifying him as Aden Ibrahim. Detectives were called to the scene and observed a revolver with tape on the handle lying in plain view on the bedroom floor. The complainant stated that the room and its contents belonged to Ibrahim.
A subsequent search warrant executed at the residence led to the seizure of the revolver, ammunition, approximately 26 grams of suspected crack cocaine base, and drug paraphernalia.
Ibrahim has two prior felony convictions: one for criminal possession of a weapon in March 2022 and another for criminal possession of a controlled substance in January 2024. As a result of these convictions, he is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
He appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge and was ordered detained. He is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
