
Death Investigated After Inmate Found Unresponsive At Penobscot County Jail
Authorities are investigating after a person died Saturday night inside a cell at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Bangor Police arrested the individual following an incident in the city and transported them to the jail at approximately 11:50 a.m. Saturday. Officials said the individual was screened by medical staff and completed the standard intake process upon arrival.
Several hours later, the individual was assigned to a cell. At approximately 9:35 p.m., correctional officers found the person unresponsive. Correctional officers, medical staff and Bangor first responders initiated lifesaving measures, according to officials, but the individual could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the jail.
Authorities have not released the individual’s identity. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
Two Fatal Off-Road Vehicle Crashes Under Investigation In Maine
The Maine Warden Service is investigating two separate fatal off-road vehicle crashes that occurred in central and eastern Maine.
Officials said one crash involved a side-by-side ATV in Lowell while the second involved a dirt bike in Mayfield. The incidents happened in separate locations but both resulted in fatalities.
According to authorities, two men, ages 75 and 43, died from injuries sustained in the crashes. Additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incidents have not been released.
The Maine Warden Service continues to investigate both crashes.
Thousands Celebrate Pride In Downtown Portland
Thousands of people filled the streets of downtown Portland on Saturday for the city’s annual Pride parade, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community with colorful floats, music and support from local organizations and businesses.
The parade began in Monument Square and traveled through the city before concluding at Deering Oaks Park. There, participants gathered for a Pride festival featuring live entertainment, vendors and community organizations.
Organizers said the event was designed to celebrate diversity, inclusion and equality while highlighting the contributions of LGBTQ+ residents throughout Maine.
Providence PrideFest Marks 50th Annual Celebration
Thousands of people gathered in downtown Providence on Saturday for Rhode Island PrideFest as the event celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The area between Dyer Street and the Providence River was transformed into a day-long celebration featuring music, vendors and community organizations. Attendees gathered throughout the day to recognize the milestone event and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
Organizers described the festival as a celebration of identity, inclusion and community as Rhode Island PrideFest reached its golden anniversary.
Providence Hosts Annual Juneteenth RI Festival
The City of Providence hosted its 8th Annual Juneteenth RI Festival on Sunday, bringing residents together to celebrate Black culture and community.
The free event featured live music, local Black-owned food vendors and opportunities for community networking throughout the day.
Organizers said the festival was designed to honor Juneteenth while highlighting Black culture, entrepreneurship and community connections across Rhode Island.
