The Boston College Eagles (5-5) hosted the North Carolina Tar Heels (6-4) at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA, on Saturday afternoon. This was the second start for quarterback Grayson James after he took over for Thomas Castellanos. The Eagles entered this game looking for a win after falling short against SMU in a 38-28 loss last week.
After having a touchdown brought back with a pass interference on the offensive end, the Eagles kicked a 49-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 8:45 left in the first quarter. This would be the only points scored by either team in the first quarter.
To start the second quarter, James scrambled left and ran in for the first touchdown of the game, extending the Eagles lead to 10-0 with 13:41 left in the first half. After the Eagles displayed great defense, John Montague scored a 24-yard touchdown to extend the lead 17-0 with 9:05 left in the second quarter.
On the very next possession, the Tar Heels responded, scoring for the first time this game as Chris Cullvier returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown with 8:51 left in the half.
Following a Joe Marinaro interception, James threw an 18-yard touchdown to Reed Harris to extend the BC lead to 24-7 at the end of the half.
The Eagles entered the second half and kicked a field goal to add to a dominant 27-7 lead with 11:20 left in the third quarter. This is all that would truly happen in the third quarter. The final score was 27-7 Eagles up going into the fourth and final quarter.
To start the fourth quarter, Jacolby Criswell threw an interception, caught by the Eagles’ Ryan Turner that was returned for a touchdown, extending the lead to 37-7 with 12:38 left. The next possession, with 9 plays Kye Robichaux of the Eagles, rushed in for an 8-yard touchdown, making the lead 41-7. BC would end up winning the game by a final score of 41-21 .
The Eagles will close out the 2024 regular season next Saturday, Nov. 30 as they host Pitt. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
