Saturday afternoon in Smithfield, Rhode Island, the University of Rhode Island Rams concluded their impressive 2024 regular season with a decisive 35-21 victory over the Bryant University Bulldogs, held at Beirne Stadium. With this ascendancy, the Rams completed the season with an overall record of ten wins and two losses, reinforcing their dominance by finishing the year with a perfect 5-0 record against New England opponents and an impressive 2-0 ledger against fellow in-state rivals.
Rams star running back Malik Grant once again showcased his exceptional athleticism and football dexterity, contributing significantly to the Rams success with a remarkable performance that included four total touchdowns. Grant found the end zone three times on the ground, demonstrating his power and agility, and also caught his first touchdown reception of the season.
In addition to Grant’s standout efforts, Braden Price, a redshirt senior defensive back hailing from Wheeling, West Virginia, made a crucial impact on the defensive side of the ball by recording his first interception of the year. This also marked a significant milestone for Price, as it was his first interception since the 2021 season, when he captured two picks during a game against Illinois.
Kicker Ty Groff contributed early on with two successful field goals, which provided the Rams with their initial six points. His accurate kicks helped establish momentum for the team as they built a lead in the opening quarter.
With Saturday’s victory, the Rams clinched their first conference championship since 1985, a remarkable achievement that underscores URI’s hard work and dedication throughout the 2024 season.
As fans and players celebrate Saturday’s victory, all eyes are now set on Sunday, when the Rams await the news of their postseason destiny during the highly anticipated FCS Selection Show.
