The Boston Bruins opened up their 100th season in franchise history against the Chicago Blackhawks at TD Garden in Boston, MA on Wednesday night. The Bruins were coming off the most wins in a season in NHL history in 2022-2023 before losing in the first round to the Florida Panthers.
Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard was playing his second NHL game after making his debut against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Bedard scored his first NHL goal five minutes into the game to give Chicago an early 1-0 lead.
Just under six minutes later, Trent Fredric tied the game for the Bruins on an assist from Brandon Carlo and Matthew Poitras. David Pastrnak gave Boston their first lead at the 13:09 mark in the second period on a goal assisted by Milan Lucic.
Just 56 seconds into the third quarter, Pastrnak scored his second goal of the game, an empty-netter, and Boston took a 3-1 lead. That would prove to be the final score as the Bruins opened their 100th season with a win. Goalie Linus Ullmark recorded 21 saves.
The Bruins will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Nashville Predators. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
