Sunday night, the Worcester Red Sox wrapped up their six-game set in Rochester with an 8-9 loss to the Red Wings. Not the results they were seeking after winning their first five against Rochester. This team came into this game looking to sweep their first six-game series since August 31 – September 5, 2021 at Rochester.
Joey Meneses kicked off this game at the bottom of the first with a homer to get Rochester an early 0-1 lead. Riley Adams then hit a double to put Rochester on top 0-2.
After three scoreless innings, at the top of the fourth Worcester got into this game with Devlin Granberg hitting a triple to help drive in Jeter Downs, Pedro Castellanos and Johan Mieses to put Worcester out front 3-2 game. but at the bottom of the fourth Riley Adams hit a dinger to make this a 3-3 game.
Bottom of the fifth Adrian Sanchez and Cole Freeman both made it over the plate to put Rochester on top 3-5.
Jeter Downs made it over the plate at the top of the sixth to make it a 4-5 game. But at the bottom of the sixth Adrian Sanchez hit a single to help drive in Jake Noll and Nick Banks to put Rochester out front 4-7.
At the top of the eighth Christin Stewart made it over the plate for Worcester to make it a 5-7 game. Then a single by Yolmer Sanchez helped to drive in Jeter Downs to make it a 6-7 game. Jaylin Davis made it over the plate to make it a 7-7 game. But at the bottom of the eighth Cole Freeman hit his second dinger for the season to drive in Matt Lipka and put Rochester out front 7-9.
Right after tonight’s game the Worcester Red Sox will get on their bus for a long ride back home where they’ll play Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-Yankees) Monday night at 6:45 PM. It will be the first-ever Monday game at Polar Park and the WooSox will celebrate Independence Day with a post-game patriotic UniBank Fireworks spectacular.
At the top of the ninth Jeter Downs made it over the Plate for Worcester to make this an 8-9 Rochester game.
The WooSox announced Sunday that Boston Red Sox LHP Chris Sale is expected to make his next rehab start this coming Wednesday night at Polar Park. This past Thursday night Sale struck out seven batters in his rehab start with the Portland Sea Dogs against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Sale tossed 4.0 innings allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out seven. He threw 52 pitches with 36 of those for strikes.
