Shots Fired Following Reported Theft in Methuen

Massachusetts State Police are investigating after shots were fired following a reported theft in Methuen on Sunday morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m., troopers responded to the off-ramp from Interstate 93 South to Route 110/113 for a report of a shooting.

According to investigators, the victims told police they had attended an earlier gathering in Lawrence where they were victims of a theft. Police said the victims and suspects later left the gathering and confronted one another at the off-ramp, where shots were fired.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Couple Arrested Following Pursuit in Middleborough

A man and woman were taken into custody Sunday after leading police on a pursuit in Middleborough.

Middleborough police reported the pursuit at approximately 10 a.m. State police later secured a positive StarChase deployment on the suspect vehicle while it was traveling eastbound on Route 44.

Authorities ultimately stopped the vehicle on Route 105 and arrested both occupants.

According to state police, the incident began following an argument outside a Trucchi’s supermarket that later continued inside the store. Daniel Francis said he was working at the Trucchi’s when he said a man came inside and threatened Francis and his boss with a knife.

Police said no one was injured.

Authorities also said a baby was inside the black Chevy sedan during the incident.

The identities of the suspects have not been released.

Two Young Girls Killed in Vermont Crash

Vermont State Police are investigating a deadly head-on crash that claimed the lives of two young girls Saturday morning in Woodbury.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Vermont Route 14 near Hattie Bell Road.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 38-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla southbound failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Ford F-250 driven by a 60-year-old man.

A 2-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl riding in the Corolla were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Corolla driver and a passenger in the Ford F-250 were transported to hospitals with serious injuries.

State police said it was not immediately clear whether charges would be filed.

Scottish Fans Celebrate in Boston

Thousands of Scottish soccer supporters filled the streets of Boston on Sunday following Scotland’s 1-0 World Cup victory over Haiti.

The celebration, led by Scotland’s “Tartan Army,” began at Evans Way Park and made its way toward Fenway Park for the Red Sox game.

Supporters wearing kilts and carrying bagpipes packed Lansdowne Street as they celebrated Scotland’s first World Cup win at Boston Stadium the night before.

Young Athletes Gather for Global Basketball Championship

Young basketball players from around the world gathered in Springfield for the MADE Hoops Global Games at the MassMutual Center.

The event featured players ages 10 through 14 from more than a dozen countries, including Serbia and Lithuania, competing in what organizers described as the first middle school basketball championship.

The tournament was made possible with support from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

MADE Hoops was founded in 2014 to help develop and promote young basketball players.

Chicopee Hosts First Pride Parade

The city of Chicopee held its first-ever Pride parade on Saturday.

Participants gathered at Dana Park before making their way to Szot Park as community members came together to celebrate Pride Month.

The event featured live entertainment and vendors throughout the day.

Organizers said the parade was designed to provide visibility to the many facets of the LGBTQ community in Chicopee.
