A summer evening in Boston’s South End was shattered by gunfire Sunday night as police rushed to the area of O’Day Playground following reports of a shooting that left three people seriously wounded.

Boston Police said officers responded at approximately 7:38 p.m. to a report of a person shot near O’Day Playground at 75 West Newton Street.

What officers found upon arrival quickly escalated the response.

According to Boston Police, three people were suffering from gunshot wounds when officers reached the scene. Emergency responders immediately began rendering aid as investigators worked to secure the area around the playground.

All three victims were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, according to police.
