Holy Cross Holds Off Sacred Heart For A 10-13 Win

Saturday afternoon was cold but it was great New England weather as the Holy Cross Crusaders hosted Sacred Heart in round one of the NCAA 2021 Division I FCS Football. This was also a showdown of toughness and greatness between two New England D1 schools.

In the first quarter with 9:38 on the clock, McCoy got Sacred Heart into the game with a 5 yards run for a TD.  The point after attempt was good. At the end of the first quarter it was a 7-0 Sacred Heart lead.

In the second quarter with 3:53 on the clock, Derek Ng made a 23 yard field goal to get the Crusaders in the game. At the end of the second quarter it was a 7-3 Sacred Heart lead.

In the fourth quarter with 12:09 on the clock, Noah Gettman made a 33 yard field goal for Sacred Heart. With 8:27 on the clock, Derek Ng made a 38 yard field goal for the Crusaders.

This game came down to the wire with Sacred Heart leading 10-6 into the final seconds. With fourteen seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Jalen Coker got a TD and sealed the win for the Crusaders. The point after attempt was good and it was a 10-13 Crusaders game.

For the Crusaders, this was their seventh consecutive win, their first postseason win and their first win less than 20 points.

The Crusaders will now advance to the second round of the NCAA 2021 Division I FCS Football. They will head to Philadelphia to play Villanova Friday night at 7PM.
