HARTFORD, CT — A months-long investigation into child exploitation led Hartford police back to the same suspect, the same residence, and what detectives say was an expanding cache of illegal material that ultimately resulted in a first-degree felony charge.

It began in February 2025, when the Hartford Police Department’s Special Investigations Division – Child Exploitation Prevention Unit, working with the Emergency Response Team, executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence on Oxford Street. The focus of that operation was specific and serious — an investigation into the possession of child sex abuse materials.

Inside that residence, detectives say they found what they were looking for.

During the search, investigators located numerous items of illegal child sex abuse materials in the suspect’s possession. The suspect was taken into custody at that time and transported to the Hartford Police Detention Division for processing.

But the case did not stop there.

As detectives continued to investigate, they say the scope of the material grew. Investigators determined that the suspect was in possession of additional child sex abuse materials beyond what was initially recovered. That expansion of evidence is what pushed the case forward.

Based on those findings, probable cause was established. An arrest warrant was drafted, reviewed, and ultimately approved by a Superior Court judge, charging the suspect with Possession of Child Abuse Materials in the First Degree.

More than a year after the initial search, the investigation came full circle.

On May 2, 2026, detectives from the Special Investigations Division located the suspect and took him into custody without incident. He was again transported to the Hartford Police Detention Division for processing.

Police identified the suspect as Christopher Torre, born June 18, 1997, of Wallingford, Connecticut.

He is now charged with Possession of Child Abuse Materials in the First Degree. Bond was set at $250,000 by the court.

Authorities are continuing to urge anyone with information related to this investigation to contact the Hartford Police Tip Line at 860-722-TIPS (8477).
