BRIDGEPORT, CT — Months after a man was found dead inside an apartment, police say the case has now turned into a homicide arrest, with one suspect in custody and another still unidentified.
Authorities announced Monday that 49-year-old William Davis is accused in the killing of 61-year-old Kevin McKinnon, a North Carolina man who had been staying at Charles F. Greene Homes in September 2025.
The timeline, as laid out by investigators, is direct and unsettling.
Police say McKinnon was last seen on September 10th, the night detectives now say he was assaulted. Two days later, on September 12th, he was found dead inside the apartment — discovered by family and a friend who went to check on him after not hearing from him for more than two days.
What happened in between is now central to the case.
Detectives say video evidence captured an attack in the courtyard outside of Building 2. According to police, the footage shows Davis and another man assaulting McKinnon on September 10th. The same video, investigators say, shows McKinnon entering the apartment after the assault — and never leaving.
That detail matters.
Because when the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reviewed the case, the conclusion was clear. McKinnon’s death was caused by the altercation, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
From there, the investigation moved forward.
Police say William Davis turned himself in early Monday morning at Bridgeport Police Headquarters after the Homicide Unit secured a felony warrant for his arrest. He is now charged with manslaughter in the second degree and assault of an elderly person in the second degree. His bond was set at $250,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court later that day.
But the case is not closed.
Investigators are still working to identify the second individual seen in the video — the second person police say was involved in the assault that led to McKinnon’s death.
And that leaves a critical piece of this case unresolved.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward and contact Homicide Detective Jeffrey Holtz at (203) 581-5293.
