Springfield, Massachusetts — A routine traffic stop on the 500 block of Union Street Tuesday night spiraled into a major drug bust, leaving two suspects in handcuffs and a fanny pack stuffed with crack-cocaine, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and over $1,400 in cash in police hands.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., Springfield Police officers noticed a vehicle and pulled it over. The driver and passenger, later identified as 21-year-old Roberto Gueits-Delgado of Springfield and 32-year-old Jhonatan Figueroa of Lynn, immediately ignored commands and tried to walk away. Gueits-Delgado violently resisted officers, breaking free and grabbing a fanny pack from the car. A struggle erupted; he punched an officer in the face while OC spray was deployed. During the chaos, the fanny pack fell to the ground. Figueroa picked it up and attempted to flee.

Backup officers tracked Figueroa to the intersection of Union and Stebbins Street, recovering the fanny pack with 29 grams of crack-cocaine, one bag of cocaine, two bags of marijuana, and roughly 216 baggies of heroin.

Gueits-Delgado faces charges including trafficking crack-cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Class A and Class B drugs, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. Figueroa is charged with trafficking crack-cocaine, possession with intent to distribute Class A and Class B drugs, assault and battery on a police officer, two counts of resisting arrest, and has an outstanding Lynn District Court warrant for possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug.
