A Massachusetts man tore up Interstate 95 at more than 120 mph before cops finally caught him hiding behind a Portsmouth business, authorities said.

Trooper Cameron Vetter spotted the 2016 BMW X3 blasting northbound through Hampton at 10:21 p.m. on Nov. 27, 2025. When he tried to pull it over, the driver killed the lights and took off, ripping down I-95 in the dark, speeding and driving erratically, according to police.

The BMW shot off at Exit 5 toward the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, then bolted south on Route 1. Troopers eventually pulled the plug on the pursuit because of safety concerns and began combing the area.

Trooper Patrick Vetter found the SUV stashed behind a business off Lafayette Road. The driver — and only person inside — was identified as 22-year-old Mason Hebert of Boxford, Massachusetts. Troopers said Hebert showed signs of impairment.

Hebert was hit with a felony reckless conduct charge and misdemeanor counts of aggravated driving under the influence of liquor and disobeying an officer.

A bail commissioner ordered him held in preventive detention, and he was hauled to Rockingham County Jail to await his Friday, Nov. 28, 2025 appearance in Portsmouth District Court.
