Shrewsbury, Mass. – Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson and Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. provided an update today on a fatal shooting that occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on the pathway adjacent to Jordan Pond in Shrewsbury.
Police received a 911 call from an individual involved in an altercation. During the call, telecommunicators heard what appeared to be gunshots, and the caller became unresponsive. Responding officers rendered aid and transported the victim to UMass Medical Center, where the victim later died from their injuries.
Using drone technology, Shrewsbury Police located the suspect in a nearby residence. With assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP Team) and the Air Wing, law enforcement achieved a peaceful resolution when the suspect surrendered without incident. The suspect remains in custody at the Shrewsbury Police Station and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Westborough District Court on charges related to the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, conducted jointly by Shrewsbury Police Detectives and State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, with support from the Mass. State Police Crime Scene Services Section and K-9 Unit. No further details on the identities of the victim or suspect have been released.
Chief Anderson and DA Early expressed their gratitude to local and state partners assisting in the investigation, including Auburn, Boylston, Grafton, Northborough, and Westborough Police Departments, along with the State Police Detective Unit.
The victim’s family has requested privacy at this time. Shrewsbury Police and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.
