The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Sunday, May 18th 2025, by a score of eight runs to two at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees as a team had seven combined hits and improved to 27-19 on the season.

The Yankees were fueled by a huge day from left fielder Cody Bellinger. Bellinger recorded three hits on three at-bats, a double, a grand slam, and six RBI’s. He put the Yankees on the scoreboard first and his grand slam effectively put the game out of reach. Pitching was also on fire for the Yankees, as Max Fried recorded eight strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs on the mound on 6 innings pitched. Fried has posted a 1.29 ERA through 10 starts which is the lowest ERA of any pitcher in the MLB.

Other contributors included Paul Goldschmidt with an RBI and Austin Wells with a double. Reliever Devin Williams, earned the win and did not allow any runs.

Mets second baseman, Jeff McNeil, went 1-for-1 with an RBI single, a walk, and a run scored. Starting pitcher David Peterson had a productive day, allowing only one earned run over six innings. The Mets just could not get the bats rolling, as Mark Vientos was the only other Mets player to record a hit.

The Yankees have now won four series in a row, with the three other previous series wins coming against the Mariners, Athletics, and Padres. The team has hit 79 home runs through 46 games — the most in franchise history at this point in the season.

The Yankees will begin a three-game series at home against the Texas Rangers on May 20th. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and will also stream on Prime Video. The Mets will travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox in a new three-game series on the 19th.
