On Monday, May 19th, around 12:08 p.m., Worcester police officers were called to conduct a welfare check on a Forestdale Road address.

When officers arrived at the scene, the resident was making threats involving explosives, bolted the front door shut, and even pointed what looked to be a rifle at the officers.

The resident was identified as fifty-three-year-old Raymond Nydam.

With explosives and a rifle involved, officers took cover and made the decision to call the crisis negotiation and SWAT teams.

In addition to the rifle, Nydam also flashed a samurai sword at the officers.

It took nine and a half hours of the officers trying to work out a solution with Nydam for him to finally come out of the apartment and be placed in handcuffs.

Nydam is being charged with Assault with a dangerous weapon.
