Boston Police on Tuesday morning responded to a shooting at 11:30 AM in the area of 10 Roxbury Street, a block away from the Dudley MBTA bus station.

Upon arrival, officers did not find a victim but were later advised that the victim was at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After viewing video surveillance footage of the area, Boston police sent out a photo of the suspect involved in the shooting to all officers.

A detective observed an individual matching the suspect’s description in the area of Centre Street and Estrella Street. When the suspect, who has been identified by Boston Police as Alexander Delarosa, 48, of Boston, saw the detective, he attempted to conceal himself behind a vehicle. Boston Police said Delarosa was “placing his hand into his pocket.”

Other officers responded to the area, and Boston Police said, “The suspect began to approach officers with his hand still in his pocket. Officers gave the suspect multiple verbal commands to show his hands, which he continued to refuse. Officers were able to quickly detain the suspect and placed him into handcuffs.”

After searching the suspect, officers recovered a firearm from his left side sweater pocket. Boston Police said, “The firearm was later determined to be a Regent firearm, containing three rounds and one spent shell casing inside the cylinder.”

Delarosa was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of ammunition without FID Card, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes.

At his arraignment at Roxbury District Court, Delarosa appeared before David J. Breen, who entered a plea of not guilty on all charges, and ordered Delarosa committed to the Suffolk County Jail without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on August 15.
