The Worcester Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings faced off in the fourth game of their six-game series at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Friday night. The Red Wings won the third game of the series, 6-5 on Thursday night.
They would score first in the first inning when Erick Mejia homered on just the second pitch he saw. The WooSox would answer back fast as Trevor Story homered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one. Ronaldo Hernandez both hit the team’s second home run in the game in the bottom of the second, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Jacob Nottingham hit the game’s fourth home run for Rochester to tie the game at two. They would take the lead back in the fifth as former Red Sox shortstop Jeter Downs popped up to right field, allowing Drew Millas to score.
A wild pitch from Rochester pitcher Joan Adon allowed Ryan Fitzgerald to score the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. They would tack on two more and took a 5-3 lead into the eighth.
Jack Dunn would hit his first home run in the eighth for Rochester, closing the gap to 5-4.
In the top of the ninth, the Red Wings had men on first and third with two outs after Worcester failed to pull what would’ve been the game-ending double play.
Down to their last strike, Rochester scored two runs, including the go-ahead run, when Dunn, who hit the homer in the eighth, doubled on a fly ball that dropped deep in right field, allowing Downs and Millas to score.
The Red Wings would close it out in the bottom of the ninth and hold on for the 6-5 victory. These two teams will face off in the fifth game of the series tomorrow night at Polar Park in Worcester, MA. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m. ET.
