USWNT Draws With The Netherlands, 1-1

The USWNT played their second game of the 2023 FIFA World Cup against the Netherlands in New Zealand on Wednesday night. They were looking for their 20th consecutive World Cup victory.

Jill Rood scored the game’s first goal in the 17th minute for the Netherlands, giving them an early 1-0 lead. It remained that way until the 62nd minute when Lindsey Horan scored the game-tying goal.

There was a chance later on in the match for the US to take the lead as Trinity Rodman came close to scoring, but she was never able to get it through the net. The game would end in a 1-1 draw, ending their 19-game winning streak at the World Cup.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime also snapped the streak of 17 consecutive games where they trailed. They did, however, earn a point and avoided being eliminated.

Their next scheduled match is Tuesday, Aug. 1 when they take on Portugal. That match is set to rip off at 3 a.m. ET from New Zealand.
