Long Island Nets Fall To Lakeland Magic As Playoff Time Inches Closer

By DJ Harding –

The Long Island Nets come into today’s matchup with their playoff ticket punched as the first seed in the Eastern Conference securing a bye from the first round. With one more game to play on Saturday.

The Lakeland Magic meanwhile come into the game with their playoff hopes in the balance as they have this game and Saturday versus the Iowa Wolves to make a last second attempt into the playoffs.

While the Nets don’t have much to lose except momentum they kept it close with the Magic through the first half as the score was 64-64. It was all tied up as both teams scored 32 points in each quarter.

The third quarter would be crucial as the Magic would come out the quarter and go on a 14 point run to take the lead and outscore the Nets in the quarter 30-21.

As they would use the fourth quarter to fight back. The Nets would catch all the way back up as the score was tied at 113 with 40 seconds left.

Lakeland Magic free throws would be the key to the Magic winning as Jay Scrubb would complete a 25 point performance with two free throws to give Lakeland a 115-113 win and keep their playoff dreams alive.

Lakeland would also receive a 31 point performance from Zavier Simpson.

The Nets would see Kaiser Gates score 27 points and the G-League All Star David Duke Jr chip in 22 points as well.
