WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Police Vice Detectives arrested two men Monday after executing a search warrant at a Mott Street apartment, an investigation that led to the seizure of cocaine, marijuana, suspected psychedelic mushrooms, fentanyl pills and what investigators described as an AR-style large-capacity handgun that appeared to be a ghost gun.

The target of the Sept. 29 search warrant was 43-year-old Juan Vargas. During surveillance, detectives observed Vargas leaving the Mott Street address and stopped him a short distance away on Barclay Street, where he was informed of the search warrant.

Detectives recovered three individual knotted bags of cocaine from the cross-shoulder bag Vargas was wearing. Vice Detectives, Worcester Police K-9 officers and EOP officers then approached the Mott Street residence and entered the building through an open common door.

Officers proceeded to the second-floor apartment, knocked and announced their presence but received no response. Police then forced entry into the apartment, where detectives located 44-year-old Kola Anjorin inside a bedroom.

A subsequent search of Vargas’ bedroom uncovered approximately 40 grams of cocaine packaged for sale, according to the department. Detectives also recovered a large quantity of marijuana packaged for sale, suspected psychedelic mushrooms packaged for sale, and drug packaging and processing materials.

The search of Anjorin’s bedroom led investigators to numerous pressed fentanyl pills packaged for sale and additional drug processing and packaging materials. Detectives also recovered an AR-style large-capacity handgun loaded with a 30-round magazine.

Police reported that the firearm had no visible serial numbers and appeared to be a ghost gun. According to the department, Anjorin does not possess a license to carry a firearm or a Firearms Identification Card.

Vargas was arrested and is being charged with trafficking in cocaine, 36 to 99 grams. Anjorin was arrested and is being charged with possession with intent to distribute Class A fentanyl pills, possession of a large-capacity firearm, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, improper storage of a large-capacity firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Framingham Police K-9 assisted Worcester Police during the search. The charges against Vargas and Anjorin are allegations, and the two men are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
