UConn’s men’s basketball team met Arkansas in the Sweet 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Thursday night. The Huskies were looking to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2014 while Arkansas was looking for another upset victory after knocking off defending champion Kansas in the Round of 32.
There would be no upset here, however, as Jordan Hawkins scored 24 points to lead the way as they dominated Arkansas 88-65 to advance to the regional finals. UConn never trailed in the game.
They took control early, going on a 14-0 run at one point in the first half and never letting up. Arkansas did go on a 10-0 run of their own, but it was nowhere near enough as by that time, UConn was already up 62-33. The 29-point lead was their biggest of the game.
The Huskies will now face [Gonzaga/UCLA] in the Elite Eight at T-Mobile Arena in Vegas on Saturday.
