10 Dead In California Mass Shooting

On Saturday night at approximately 10:22 pm, Monterey Park, CA Police Department responded to the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue for reports of shots fired. 

Upon arrival officers observed numerous victims and patrons in the parking lot of the business at this location.

Upon entry into the business, officers located numerous gunshot victims. Ten of the victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. Additional victims were transported to area hospitals to be treated. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances regarding a mass shooting in the city of Monterey Park.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. The suspect has been identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran. 

About 20 to 30 minutes after the first attack, Tran entered entered a second business in nearby Alhambra. But people wrestled the weapon away from him before he fled.

Tran was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after law enforcement zeroed in on a white cargo van that was believed to have been connected to the shooting suspect.
