After kicking off their double homestand Tuesday night with a game one 4-0 win against the Toledo Mud Hens, The Worcester Red Sox and the Mud Hens were back in action on Wednesday night for gam two of their six-game set. Josh Lester opened this game up at the top of the second with his eighth homer of the season to get the Hens an early 1-0 lead. At the bottom of the second Christin Stewart scored to get Worcester into this contest and tie the game 1-1. At the bottom of the first Yolmer Sanchez scored to put Worcester on top 1-2 but after three scoreless innings the Hens took the lead in this contest with two runs to make it a 3-2 Hens game. At the top of the seventh the Hens made it a 4-2 game with Derek Hill scoring. At the top of the ninth Ryan Kreidler scored to put the Hens on top 5-2 to win this contest. The Worcester Red Sox and the Mud Hens will have their third meeting Thursday night at Polar park with first pitch scheduled for 6:45PM.
After winning nine straight contests, Tuesday night the Hartford Yard Goats had their winning streak snapped by the Akron Rubber Ducks and Wednesday night, things were not looking great for Yard Goats who suffered their second straight loss to the Rubber Ducks. At the top of the first Micah Pries opened this contest up with his ninth homer of the season to help drive in Brayan Rocchio and Bo Naylor and put the Rubber Ducks on top 3-0 early. At the bottom of the first Isaac Collins and Ezequiel Tovar both scored for the Yard Goats to make it a 3-2 Rubber Ducks lead. At the top of the second the Rubber Ducks first scored with Daniel Schneemann and then Bo Naylor hit his sixth homer of the season to help drive in Brayan Rocchio and put the Rubber Ducks on top 6-2. Julian Escobedo scored at the top of the third to put the Rubber Ducks on top 7-2. At the bottom of the third Aaron Shunk scored for the Yard Goats to make it a 7-3 game. At the top of the fourth Daniel Schneemann and Brayan Rocchio both scored to put the Rubber Ducks on top 9-3, top of the sixth Bo Naylor scored to put the Rubber Ducks on top 10-3 and then at then at the top of the seventh with two runs (Raynel Delgado and Marcos Gonzalez) the Rubber Ducks were on top 12-3 in this contest. To add insult to injury, at the top of the ninth Jonathan Engelmann hit his fifth dinger of the season for the Rubber Ducks to win this contest 13-3.
The Manchester Fisher Cats haven’t won a game since June 12th, and Wednesday night they looked good and played well against the Somerset Patriots. After three scoreless innings, at the top of the fourth Spencer Horowitz opened this contest up with the first run for the Fisher Cats and made it a 1-0 game. At the bottom of the fourth Blake Perkins got the first run of the game for the Patriots to make it a 1-1 game. At the top of the fifth both Michael Beltre and Oliver Dunn scored to put the Patriots on top 1-3 in this contest, but at the bottom of the sixth Will Robertson hit his seventh dinger of the season to help drive in Cam Edenand make it a 3-3 game. Anthony Volpe scored at the bottom of the seventh and that put the Patriots back on top 3-4 and the Fisher Cats would end this contest with their fourth straight loss (3rd against Somerset Patriots).
After losing seven straight, the Portland Sea Dogs on Wednesday night finally grabbed a win, beating the Reading Fightin Phils 6-1. Atthe top of the third Tyler Espllin got the first run of the game to put the Sea Dogs on top 1-0. Top of the fifth Ceddanne Rafaela hit his third dinger of the season to drive in David Hamilton and put the Sea Dogs on top 3-0 but then Pedro Castellllanos hit his eighth dinger of the season to put the Sea Dogs on top 4-0. At the top of the seventh Ceddanne Rafaela hit his second dinger of the contest and ninth for the season to help drive in David Hamilton and put the Sea Dogs on top 6-0 in this contest. After eight scoreless innings Jhailyn Ortiz hit histenth dinger of the season to make it a 6-1 Sea Dogs game.
With Jarren Duran out in center field, Franchy Cordero at first base and Winckowski at the mound you would have thought that you were at Polar Park for a Worcester Red Sox game but this was the scene Wednesday night at Fenway for the Red Sox v. Athletics. The Red Sox, who beat the Athletics Tuesday night 6-1, grabbed a 10-1 win Wednesday night. This contest opened up at the bottom of the first with Devers scoring to make it a 0-1 Red Sox game. At the bottom of the bottom of the second Devers came back with a homer 387 feet to center field and drove in Bradley to put the Red Sox on top 0-3. Then Bogaerts scored to put the Red Sox on top 0-4. Both Duran and Devers scored at the bottom of the fourth to put the Red Sox on top 0-6. Davidson hit a homer 431 feet to left field to get the Athletics into the game and make it a 1-6 Red Sox lead. At the bottom of the sixth Verdugo hit a homer 393 feet to center field and drove in Martinez to put the Red Sox on top 8-1. At the bottom of the eighth both Martinez and Bogaerts scored to put the Red Sox top 1-10.
