Its Tuesday Night and baseball is back in the canal district. The Worcester Red Sox are back for a 12- game homestead when they host the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers).
Worcester is coming off another successful series against the Buffalo Bisons, last weekend taking 4 of 6 on the road. The Woosox are right back where they started on April 5th- at the .500 mark, their 30-30 on the season. Currently tied for 6th place and 5 GB.
On the mound for the Worcester Red Sox is RHP Connor Seabold. Connor pitched 3 innings, 2, 0, 2, 3 last Thursday. He was activated on June 9th from the 7- day injured list, after being placed on may 22. Connor is (3-1) with an era of (2.27). Pitching for Toledo is RHP Garrett Hill who is (1-1) with an era of (5.79). Hill is coming off his first Triple-A start and making his 5th start in Worcester. Worcester celebrates its 300th Anniversary and before tonight’s first pitch will be some notable attendees (Mayor Petty- who will be giving a key to the city), a moment of silence for Scott Gaurvin, and ceremonies that will occur prior to the game. Tonight’s first pitch is 6:50pm.
Seabold takes the mound for the Worcester Red Sox and the first pitch is a ground out to the shortstop for the first out of the top of the inning. #20 LF Baddoo flys out to LF for the 2nd out. Seabold strikes out #2 SS Ryan Kreidler with the fastball to end the top half. Start of the bottom of the half is #24 CF Jarren Durran, flys out to center for the 1st out. Connor Wong #7 DH draws a walk to get the first runner on base for the Woosox. Ryan Fitzgerald hits a ground ball scored for a base hit, runners on first and second with 1 out. Hernandez goes down swinging on a breaking ball for the 2nd out. Christian Stewart is up to bat with 2 outs strikes out to end the inning.
Top of the 2nd #12 CF Riley Green strikes out for the 1st out. #59 DH Trayce Thompson connects on a fastball for a single to RF, runner on first 1 out. #21 3B Brendon Davis hits a liner to the 2nd baseman for the double play to end the top half. Kicking off the bottom of second is #12 RF Jaylin Davis, Davis cracks a fastball down the middle for a solo shot out to the berm with an exit velocity of (106). The Worcester Red Sox lead it 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd. Batting is #20 SS Jeter Downs with a full count goes down looking for the put out, 1 out. Roberto Ramos #44 1B goes down swinging for the 2nd out. #13 2B Yolmer Sanchez pops out for the 3rd out of the 2nd inning, Woosox lead 1-0.
Top of the 3rd inning starts off with an error charged to 1B Ramos, runner on 1st with 1 out. #6 2B Zack Short goes down swinging for the 2nd out, Seabold has 2 Ks on the night. Hill hits a single off the glove of Downs, runners on 1st and 2nd 2 outs. Baddoo grounds out to 1st for the final out of the top half. Bottom of the half starts off with Durran launching a solo shot (370ft) to the FlexCon Landing with an exit velocity of (105). Worcester leads it 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd. Fitzgerald flys out to left Center for the 2nd out. Hernandez gets the out for the 3rd out after 3 Worcester leads 2-0.
First out of the 4th inning starts with Kreidler flying out to RF. Green grounds out to Sanchez for the 2nd out. Connor gets Thompson down swinging with the fastball to end the top half. Bottom half starts with a base hit from Stewart, runner on 1st. Up next is Davis who cracks a two- run shot to deep center field to give the Woosox the 4-0 lead. Davis has two on the night for him. Downs flys out for the 2nd out of the inning, Ramos grounds out to 1st for the 3rd out of the inning. Worcester 4, Toledo 0.
Top of the 5th starts with a base hit on the 3rd base side from Davis, runner on 1st. Lester flys out for the 1st out of the inning. Garneau Flys out for the 2nd out. Short goes down swinging for the final out of the top half. Durran flys out to left field for the foul out. Wong hits it to deep center, Greene makes the leaping catch for the 2nd out. Hill strikes out Ryan for the 3rd out of the inning. Worcester leads 4-0.
Top of 6th Pitching change for Worcester as Silvino Bracho comes in for Seabold. Connor pitched 5.0 innings, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K’S, ERA 2.01. Brach gets Baddoo to ground out for the 2nd out. Kreidler cracks it off the center field wall for a 2 out Triple. Man on 3rd, 2 outs Greene at the plate, goes down swinging for the final out of the top half. Brach has 1 strike out on the night. Now pitching for Toledo in the bottom half is RHP Louis Castillo. Hernandez grounds out to the SS for the 1st out. Castillo gets Stewart for the put out, making it his first strikeout of the night. With 2 outs Davis connects with a shot to center field, the outfielder tries to make the play but the ball deflects off the tip of his glove Davis makes a Triple out of it. With two outs and a runner on 3rd, Downs flys out for the final out of the inning. Worcester still on top 4-0.
Top of the 7th starts with a pop up, Ramos makes the catch for the 1st out. Davis grounds out to Ramos and flips it to the pitcher for the 2nd out. Lester flys out to Durran for the final out off the half. Ramos strikes out for the first out, as Sanchez grounds out for the 2nd out. Durran walks with 2 outs, runner on 1st, Wong goes down swinging to end the inning. At the end of 7 innings Worcester is still on top with a 4-0 lead.
Pitching change for Worcester RHP Andrew Politi comes in for Bracho at the start of the 8th inning. Bracho pitched 2.0 innings, 1H, 0R, 0 ER, 00 BB, 1k, ERA 2.96. Politi gets the batter swinging for the 1st out, gets the 2nd batter down swinging for the 2nd out. Baddoo hits a single down the middle with 2 outs, runners on 1st and 2nd. PH Jake Lopez goes down swinging for the final out of the side. Ryan Fitzgerald flys out to RF for the 1st out, Hernadez goes down swinging for the 2nd out. Stewart bloops a single past the reaching SS for the single with 2 outs. Davis gets the final out of the inning by flying out to the RF. The score stays the same.
Now pitching the Worcester Red Sox in the 9th inning is closing pitcher Zack Kelly who is 2-1, ERA 2.70. First batter flys out to LF for the 1st out. Second batter goes down swinging for the 1st K on the side. Last batter grounded out to Fitzy for the final out of the game.
The Worcester Red Sox won 4-0 to open the lengthy homestand. Connor Seabold gets the win improving his record to 4-1 on the season. Davis had a multi hit game going 3-4 with two homers, and a triple. Tonight’s game is a record fast with a game time of 2:06 min.
