SHAFTSBURY, Vt. — A 22-year-old Bennington man is facing DUI, negligent operation and excessive speed charges after a traffic stop Saturday night in Shaftsbury.
Anthony E. Williams was driving along Vermont Route 7A near Cleveland Avenue at approximately 7:40 p.m. when troopers observed the vehicle speeding.
As troopers attempted to catch up with the vehicle, it was observed crossing the yellow center line several times and traveling 72 mph in a posted 40 mph zone.
Troopers stopped the vehicle and identified Williams as the driver. Williams displayed indicators of impairment and was arrested on charges of DUI #1, negligent operation and excessive speed.
Williams was transported to the Shaftsbury State Police Barracks for processing. He was later released with a citation.
Williams is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Bennington Criminal Division, at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5.
