NASHUA, N.H. — A nighttime search of the Merrimack River ended with the discovery of a 34-year-old man who was pulled from the water and pronounced dead, according to New Hampshire State Police.
Investigators are now working to determine what happened, but State Police said they do not believe the man’s death is suspicious at this time.
The search began at 9:03 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, when Marine Patrol officers received a report that a person was possibly in the Merrimack River near the Taylor Falls Bridge along the Hudson-Nashua line.
That report triggered a coordinated search of the river and surrounding area.
For more than two hours, search personnel worked through the night looking for the missing person.
At approximately 11:23 p.m., the search came to a devastating end.
Personnel located an unresponsive 34-year-old man in the river. He was recovered from the water and pronounced dead.
State Police have not released the man’s identity as the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have also not provided additional details about the circumstances that led to the man entering the river.
While investigators continue examining the case, State Police said there is currently no indication that the death was suspicious.
The agency also used the announcement to remind the public that assistance is available for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis.
