BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Detectives in Brooklyn are investigating a fatal shooting in the Ocean Hill section of the borough after a man was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head early Saturday morning.
According to police, the shooting occurred near 17 Somers St. at approximately 12:37 a.m. on June 6.
Officers assigned to the 73rd Precinct responded after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault in progress.
When officers arrived at the location, they discovered an unidentified adult male who had been shot multiple times in the head.
Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital for treatment.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim. Police said the victim’s identity remains pending.
Investigators remained at work throughout the weekend attempting to determine exactly what led to the deadly shooting.
The motive for the attack has not been established.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
According to police sources, investigators believe the shooter may have fled the area in a black sedan that was seen speeding away from the location following the gunfire.
No additional description of the suspect was immediately available.
Detectives are working to determine whether surveillance cameras in the area captured the vehicle or any portion of the incident.
The shooting adds another homicide investigation to the workload of detectives assigned to Brooklyn North investigations as they work to identify the person responsible and establish the events that unfolded in the moments leading up to the gunfire.
Investigators frequently rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and vehicle information in cases where suspects flee the scene before officers arrive.
In this case, detectives are continuing efforts to determine who was involved and why the victim was targeted.
Authorities have not announced any arrests.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
