The Boston Red Sox selected veteran right-hander Tayron Guerrero to the active roster Friday, rewarding the hard-throwing reliever after a dominant start to the season with Triple-A Worcester.
Guerrero, 35, posted a 0.92 ERA in 15 appearances for the WooSox, allowing just two earned runs across 19.2 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .191 batting average. The Colombian-born reliever will wear No. 41 with Boston.
The move comes as the Red Sox continue to shuffle bullpen depth during a stretch of heavy pitching usage. Right-hander Zack Kelly was optioned to Worcester on Thursday after recording a 3.31 ERA in 17 appearances for Boston this season.
Boston also transferred right-hander Kutter Crawford to the 60-day injured list as he continues recovering from right wrist surgery. Crawford made one rehab appearance for Worcester in April before being shut down again.
Guerrero brings prior Major League experience with the San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins, appearing in 113 career games with 111 strikeouts over 106 innings. Boston signed him to a minor league deal in January after an impressive stint in winter ball and Spring Training, where he posted a 0.96 ERA with four saves in Grapefruit League action.
Kelly, 31, has spent parts of the last five seasons with Boston after joining the organization as a minor league free agent in 2021.
