Philadephia 76ers Eliminate Boston Celtics in Game 7

By William Armstead
The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Boston Celtics by a score of 109-100 in Game 7 of their first round matchup. The Sixers now advance to the next round, leaving the Celtics stunned as they were in control of the series early. The Sixers have beaten the Celtics in a playoff series for the first time in 44 years.
Joel Embiid’s 34 points, 12 rebounds and six assists and Tyrese Maxey’s 30 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists make them the first teammates in NBA history to each have 30-10-5 in a Game 7. V.J. Edgecombe added 23.
The Sixers were up 18 late in the third quarter, but the Celtics came back to make it close. However, the Celtics missed 10 consecutive shots under five minutes to go which hindered their ability to take the lead.
Jayson Tatum was unavailable for Game 7 as he was dealing with knee stiffness which was a huge blow to the Celtics chances in this game.
Jaylen Brown’s 33 points and Derrick White’s 26 was not enough to get the job done. As a team, the Celtics shot terribly from three point range at just 27%.
The 76ers now advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals to face off against the New York Knicks, who eliminated Philadelphia in the playoffs two years ago. That series will begin Monday.
