Rochester, NY – On Monday, Feb. 16, at approximately 12:42 p.m. ET, troopers from the SP Ellenville responded to a report of a male subject walking southbound on Queens Highway toward State Route 206 in Rochester with what appeared to be a handgun.
Upon arrival, an individual matching the description provided to Ulster County 911 was located by troopers. Multiple verbal commands were provided to the subject to show his hands. However, the subject refused to follow commands by troopers and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.
At this time, troopers discharged their duty weapons, striking the subject.
Medical aid was immediately rendered by troopers while waiting for the requested medical services to arrive. The individual was transported from the scene and later airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition but stable.
During a preliminary investigation it was revealed that the individual possessed a pellet gun.
The names of those involved are being withheld at this time and will be released later.
