BROCKTON, Mass. — Justice is closing in on fugitives in a brutal downtown Brockton killing. Michael Thompson, 35, and Dayana Slade, 25, were arraigned Wednesday in Brockton District Court for their roles in the September slaying of 40-year-old Mike Jonas. Thompson faces a first-degree murder charge, while Slade is hit with accessory after the fact. Both were nabbed Monday in Lewiston, Maine, ending months on the run.

Authorities say the fatal incident erupted around 4:15 p.m. on September 23, 2025, at Finnegan Park near Crescent and Montello Streets. Two victims were found with gunshot and stab wounds. One survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Jonas, however, did not — suffering four gunshot wounds and multiple stabs before medical personnel declared him dead.

State police detectives traced the chaos back to Thompson as the suspected shooter. Surveillance footage shows him fleeing in a black Nissan Rogue with two women, one identified as Slade. The vehicle was later seized by Weymouth Police as evidence in the homicide probe.

Thompson was held without bail at arraignment. Slade was slapped with $250,000 cash bail. Both defense teams reserved the right to argue bail at the next hearing on February 26. U.S. Marshals, Massachusetts State Police’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and local authorities teamed up to track down the suspects, underscoring the relentless hunt for violent fugitives in Massachusetts.

This case lays bare the deadly consequences of violent feuds spilling into public spaces, and the coordinated law enforcement effort signals that those who kill won’t stay free for long.
