DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The Maine Department of Transportation will begin a bridge replacement project for the Dover Bridge, also known as the Essex Street Bridge, over the Piscataquis River on February 18. The project includes replacing the bridge and 120 feet of approach work on each side, extending from the intersection of Essex and River Street to Essex and Lincoln Street.
The bridge will be closed to through traffic from February 18, 2026, to December 1, 2027. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to follow posted detour signs and maps and to expect delays while traveling through the detour zone.
MaineDOT said the project is expected to be completed by November 2028. Wyman & Simpson of Richmond, Maine, is the contractor for the $10,594,943.01 project, which is funded through Congressionally Directed Spending.
