Rock legends Green Day will kick off Super Bowl LX with a high-energy opening ceremony celebrating the NFL’s 60th anniversary, the league announced Thursday. The performance takes place Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers, and will air live at 3 p.m. PT on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo.

East Bay natives Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool will lead the band as they usher generations of Super Bowl MVPs onto the field, performing their most iconic rock anthems in a ceremony blending music, football and Bay Area culture.

“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” Armstrong said. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”

Tim Tubito, NFL senior director of event and game presentation, said the performance is a fitting tribute. “Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who’ve helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX,” he said.

The opening ceremony precedes previously announced pregame performances by Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile and Coco Jones. Puth will sing the national anthem, Carlile will perform “America the Beautiful,” and Jones will deliver “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Green Day formed in 1986 in Berkeley, California, and has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. The five-time GRAMMY Award winners and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have released 14 studio albums, including the Diamond-certified Dookie in 1994 and the 2004 rock opera American Idiot, which won a GRAMMY for Best Rock Album. Their 14th studio album, Saviors, released Jan. 19, 2024, reached #1 on seven Billboard charts and marked their fifth UK chart-topping album. After a global tour covering 88 cities and 33 countries with over 2.5 million tickets sold, Green Day capped one of the biggest runs of their career in 2025, proving 35 years in that they remain at the top of their game.
