A series of serious incidents across Connecticut and Massachusetts is under investigation this weekend, including a fatal hit-and-run involving a bicyclist in New Haven, the arrest of a teenager in a Bridgeport homicide, a stabbing and robbery in Hartford, a deadly water emergency off Cape Cod and a multifamily building fire in Salisbury.
Bicyclist Killed in New Haven Hit-and-Run
A bicyclist has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in New Haven Friday night.
Officers responded to the intersection of Howard Avenue and 2nd Street at approximately 11:15 p.m. following a report of a crash involving a bicyclist.
Investigators said the vehicle involved fled the scene after the collision.
The information provided did not identify the bicyclist or include a description of the vehicle investigators are seeking.
Teen Arrested in Bridgeport Murder Investigation
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man who was found inside a vehicle in Bridgeport last month.
Police received multiple 911 calls at approximately 6:45 p.m. July 27 reporting gunfire and a man bleeding inside a vehicle on Catherine Street.
Responding officers found 18-year-old Leon Richardson in the driver’s seat of a Honda with a head wound. Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said a 17-year-old male from Bridgeport turned himself in to homicide detectives at police headquarters Friday.
The teenager faces charges including murder and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is scheduled to appear before a judge in juvenile court Monday.
Man Stabbed and Robbed Near Hartford Gas Station
Police are investigating after a man was allegedly surrounded by a group of five to six men, assaulted, stabbed and robbed near a Hartford gas station early Saturday morning.
Officers responded to Hartford Hospital at approximately 5:10 a.m. for a report of a walk-in stabbing victim.
Authorities said the man had been near the Gulf gas station on Franklin Avenue when five to six men surrounded and assaulted him.
During the attack, police said the victim was stabbed in his arm and hand. His iPhone 13 was also reportedly stolen.
The man was listed in serious but stable condition.
Woman Dies After Three Pulled From Ocean Off Cape Cod
A woman has died after she and two other people were pulled from the ocean off Cape Cod Friday afternoon after becoming caught in what officials believe was a rip current.
The emergency unfolded at Herring Cove in Provincetown.
Local, state and federal officials conducted a large-scale search and recovered all three people who had been in distress.
The information provided did not identify the woman or provide additional details about the conditions of the other two people.
Two Hospitalized After Salisbury Multifamily Building Fire
Two people were taken to an area hospital after a fire erupted at a multifamily building in Salisbury Friday evening.
The Salisbury Fire Department said the blaze began shortly before 7 p.m.
