U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers with the Buffalo Field Office arrested a Salvadoran national on July 23 following his release from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in Ossining.
Jacobo Argueta Fuentes, 33, was taken into custody pursuant to a warrant of deportation. He is currently being held in ICE custody pending the execution of a final order of removal issued by an immigration judge on December 17, 2024.
Argueta was convicted by a New York State county court on January 9, 2020, of multiple child sex offenses. His convictions include:
- Seven counts of rape
- Two counts of using a child in a sexual performance
- Four counts of sexual abuse
- Two counts of promoting prostitution
- One count of criminal sex act
- Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child
He was sentenced to six years in state prison.
According to ICE, Argueta entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and location without being inspected or admitted by an immigration official. He was first encountered by immigration officers on March 1, 2019, at the Riverhead Correctional Facility in Suffolk County. At that time, Argueta admitted to entering the country unlawfully by crossing the U.S.-Mexico border around 2011.
On May 16, 2023, ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to take custody of Argueta upon his release from state custody.
