A North Troy woman has been arrested and charged with sexual assault following an investigation by the Vermont State Police and the Department for Children and Families.
Maria Chagnon, 36, was taken into custody at her home on July 28 and charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile that was reported earlier this month. The investigation began on July 4 at a private residence in North Troy.
According to Vermont State Police, probable cause was established during the investigation to charge Chagnon with sexual assault. She was arrested and transported to the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks for processing before being lodged without bail at the Northern State Correctional Facility.
Chagnon is scheduled to appear in Orleans County Superior Court on July 29. Authorities have not released further information regarding the case, and the identity of the victim is being withheld in accordance with state policy regarding sexual assault and juvenile victims.
