WORCESTER, MA- The city of Worcester was minimally impacted by a sewer overflow near Lake Quinsigamond and in the area of 65 Lake Avenue on Friday, June 6, 2025, at approximately 11:07 a.m.

An underground pipe released over 470 gallons of untreated wastewater onto the street. The sewer is now back to normal after crews came out and stopped the leak by 12:07 p.m.

The municipality’s storm sewer system travels out to Lake Quinsigamond. The water from the sewer that overflowed found its way to the municipality’s storm sewer system, therefore contaminating the lake. The public has been warned about heightened E. coli levels in the lake and areas where the untreated wastewater was discharged. Daily testing is being conducted to monitor those levels.
