Mattapan, MA – On Sunday, May 25, 2025, around 12:19 p.m., an officer was on patrol on Westmore Road and Gilmer Street when he noticed a car commit a traffic violation. The officer pulled the driver over immediately.
The officer made an attempt to detain the suspect, which resulted in a violent struggle between the two. The officer confirmed that the suspect was equipped with a firearm, which did go off in the scuffle, however, neither of them were injured.
Assistance was requested, and many more officers arrived on the scene to help the officer get the suspect into handcuffs.
The suspect’s firearm was identified as a Canik TP9SFx loaded with fourteen rounds of ammo. The suspect’s car was towed to District B-3 and is awaiting a search warrant.
Detectives who were dispatched on scene made many more discoveries, including a live round, a designer bag of marijuana from the suspect’s jacket pocket, a plastic bag holding fourteen grams of Fentanyl, fifteen pills with no prescription, and about $1,888 in U.S. currency.
Both the officer and suspect were taken to local hospitals by Boston EMS, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Richard Raymond, 33, of Dorchester, was placed under arrest and hit with a plethora of charges, including:
– Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
– Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
– Discharge a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building
– Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
– Resist Arrest
– Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
– Motor Vehicle Operating Refuse to Identify Self
– Trafficking of Class A
– Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B
Raymond had four active warrants for his arrest at the time of the traffic stop.
