As the tax filing deadline approaches on April 15, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is promoting the financial benefits that families in the state will enjoy due to the tax cuts package she enacted in 2023.

“We know that the number one challenge facing the people of Massachusetts is the high cost of living. That’s why we cut taxes for the first time in 20 years – and we did it in our first year in office,” said Governor Healey. “Because of the strong partnership between our team and the Legislature to deliver these tax cuts, Massachusetts families, businesses, seniors and renters are all saving more money, including benefiting from the most generous Child and Family Tax Credit in the nation. And there’s no additional paperwork required – every eligible Massachusetts taxpayer will automatically get more money back when they file their taxes this year.”

During a visit to Educare Springfield, a child care center, Governor Healey emphasized the newly expanded Child and Family Tax Credit, which has become the most generous in the nation. This credit has seen an increase from $180 to $440 per dependent child, adult with disabilities, or senior, with the removal of the cap on the number of dependents. As a result, families with three children can now receive a refund of $1,320, up from just $360 two years ago.

In addition to the expansion of the Child and Family Tax Credit, the Governor’s tax cuts package includes other significant measures aimed at making life more affordable for Massachusetts residents. This includes a doubling of the Senior Circuit Breaker Tax Credit, providing senior homeowners with an additional $1,200 annually, and an increase of the Earned Income Tax Credit from 30 percent to 40 percent of the federal credit.
