Saturday morning, the Connecticut Sun made an announcement, revealing that they have signed guard Leïla Lacan to a rookie-scale contract.
This strategic move follows the Sun’s decision to draft Lacan with the 10th overall pick in the highly competitive 2024 WNBA Draft, allowing them to secure her player rights despite her absence from the 2024 season.
Lacan, a talented 5-foot-11 guard from France, brings a wealth of international experience to the Sun. Her impressive resume includes significant achievements with the French National Team, where she showcased her skills on both junior and senior levels. She contributed to the team’s success during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they clinched a silver medal after an inspiring performance. Additionally, Lacan played a vital role in securing a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket, further establishing her as a key player in international competitions.
Her experience doesn’t stop there; Lacan has represented France in multiple prestigious tournaments, including the 2019 FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship, the 2021 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship, and most recently, the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Currently, Lacan is making a significant impact in the French league playing for Basket Landes, where she is averaging 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
