On January 22, in Everett, Massachusetts, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended a Brazilian fugitive who was illegally present in the United States and wanted in Brazil for armed robbery. This individual had entered the U.S. on unauthorized terms.
The Brazilian national’s initial entry into the United States occurred on October 15, 2020, when he was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol after crossing the border without inspection. Following his apprehension, he received a notice to appear before an immigration judge in the Department of Justice. However, just one day later, on October 16, 2020, he was returned to Mexico.
This fugitive was not deterred by his initial removal. On April 2, 2021, he illegally re-entered the U.S., leading to his second arrest by Border Patrol. An immigration judge later ordered his release on bond on September 27, 2021. On May 20, 2024, authorities in Brazil issued an arrest warrant for this individual for armed robbery, a serious offense that carries a potential 16-year prison sentence in Brazil.
On the same day, January 22, ICE also apprehended a 41-year-old Salvadoran fugitive in Everett, who is wanted for aggravated homicide in his home country. This Salvadoran national entered the United States illicitly, although specific details regarding the date and location of his entry remain unknown, as he was not admitted, inspected, or paroled by any U.S. immigration official.
The warrant for his arrest was issued by Salvadoran authorities on August 22, 2016, concerning charges of aggravated homicide. Following his arrest, ICE served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge as part of the legal proceedings now underway.
Both fugitives currently remain in ICE custody as legal protocols continue to unfold regarding their cases. In line with privacy regulations, ICE is withholding the names and likenesses of both individuals.
