The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Thursday night. The WooSox came into the game on a five-game win streak, including a 7-0 win over the Mets on Wednesday, and in second place of the International League standings.
Worcester scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first when a Vaugh Grissom single allowed Roman Anthony to score. Anthony would score in the bottom of the third, as well, this time on a sacrifice fly from Jamie Westbrook.
The WooSox weren’t done scoring in the inning, however. A Tyler Heineman triple allowed Chase Meidroth and Bobby Dalbec to score, extending their lead to 4-0. Heineman would later score himself as Dalton Guthrie hit a line drive to center field, making it a 5-0 game.
Westbrook hit his second sac fly of the game in the bottom of the fourth that allowed Meidroth to score to extend the lead to 6-0. Syracuse got one back as JT Schwartz homered to right field, putting the Mets on the board.
The scoring would wrap in the sixth as Meidroth hit a single to center field, scoring Dalton Guthrie and Tyler Miller to make it an 8-1 game. WooSox starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins went six innings, giving up six hits and just one earned run while striking out five in the second consecutive seven-run win for Worcester.
The Red Sox and Mets will meet for the third game of the series at Polar Park in Worcester on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET.
