The New England Patriots hosted the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA on Sunday afternoon. They were coming off a Week 14 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football.
The Patriots punted on their first drive and Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker missed a field goal, and the game remained scoreless five minutes in.
After the Patriots missed a field goal of their own, the Chiefs drove down the field and Rasheed Rice scored on a hand-off. That would prove to be the lone score of the first quarter.
The Patriots would tie the game with 7:09 left in the first half as Bailey Zappe found Hunter Henry on a 4th and 1 for a touchdown. it was Henry’s third touchdown in the last two games.
On the next Chiefs drive, Mahomes was intercepted by Marte Mapu, and the Patriots kicked a field goal to take a 10-7 lead. Kansas City would re-take the lead with 35 seconds left in the half when Mahomes threw a touchdown pass to Jerrick McKinnon.
After Butker kicked a field goal on the Chiefs first drive of the second half to make it a 17-10 game, Willie Gay picked off Zappe, and Mahomes found Clyde Edwards-Elaire for a touchdown to extend the Kansas City lead to 24-10.
The Patriots would score a fourth quarter touchdown down 27-10, but it wasn’t enough as the Chiefs won 27-17. The Patriots will head to Denver next week to take on the Broncos on Christmas Eve. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
