The Boston Bruins hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden in Boston, MA on Thursday night. The Bruins were looking to continue their hot streak as they’d gotten off to an 8-0-1 mark to start their 100th season.
Pavel Zacha scored the game’s first goal for Boston at the 18:51 mark in the first period, giving them an early lead. Jake DeBrusk extended the Bruins lead to 2-0 1:36 into the second period.
Toronto would fire back and quick, scoring two goals in a span of 1:03. The first came at the 6:31 mark in the period by way of Mitchell Marner, and the second at the 7:34 mark from Auston Matthews. Neither team scored in the third or overtime, and the game went into a shootout.
DeBrusk, who sotrs the second goal for Boston in the second period, scored the first goal in the shootout. Charlie Coyle would add a second shootout goal for the Bruins, and two saves from Jeremy Swayman gave Boston the 3-2 victory.
Their next game will be on the road Saturday night as they take on the Detroit Red Wings. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
