WooSox Defeat Syracuse Mets 10-2

The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Syracuse Mets at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Tuesday night. This was the first game of the final homestand for the WooSox in 2023. They were coming off a series against the Gwinnett Stripers, which the two teams split at three games a piece.

Worcester scored the first run of the game on a double from Stephen Scott, allowing Nick Sogard to score with one out in the bottom of the first inning. Two batters later, Scott would score on a pop up from Ronaldo Hernandez to right field that dropped past the outfielder, making the score 2-0.

Niko Kavadis homered to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the WooSox’s lead to 3-0. Christian Koss, the next batter, homered to left field to make it a 4-0 game in the fourth.

With the score at 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Narsico Crook hit the third home run of the night, and the 210th of the season for the team, a new Boston Red Sox AAA record. They now led 8-0.

Kadavis hit his second home run of the night, a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, to extend the lead to 10-0. Syracuse got two back on a two-run home run from Lorenzo Cedrola in the ninth, but it proved to be too little, too late as the WooSox held on for a 10-2 win.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for Game 2 of the series at Polar Park in Worcester. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET.
