American International College Beats Bridgeport 11-6 and 8-1 In Saturday Doubleheader

In a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bedard Field in Springfield, Massachusetts, American International College (AIC) hosted the Bridgeport University Purple Knights. These two teams met for the first time this season Friday night when AIC beat the Purple Knights 11-6. In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, AIC beat the Purple Knights 4-3, and in game two Saturday, AIC grabbed their third consecutive win 8-1, against the Purple Knights, sweeping the 2023 series.

In game one one the Purple Knights had two runs at the top of the second and one run at the top of the sixth. Jeremy Rodrigues, Anthony Pascale and Christian Ortiz scored for the Purple Knights. Joe Nemchek was the starter Saturday for the Purple Knights, throwing six innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out nine. Tyler John threw for just .02 for the Purple Knights allowing 2-3 including a homer. Justin Hafele closed for the Purple Knights allowing just one hit. American International College had a run in the bottom of the third and got three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Michael Cruz, Jackson Haker, Kiernan Caffrey and Ryan Lavelle scored for AIC. Kaden Peterson started for AIC and threw for six, allowing 5-3 and striking out just one. Jayden Maynard closed for AIC allowing no hits/runs and striking out one. 

In game two Saturday, Christian Ortiz was the solo run of the game for the Purple Knights. James Ackerman started for the Purple Knights and threw 4.2, allowing 5-5, and striking out 5. Tyler Solomon closed for the Purple Knights, throwing 2-3 and striking out two. Brandon Gaul contributed three runs in AIC’s 8-1 victory while Josh Frometa and Ryan Lavelle had two runs each, and Brendan Edvardsen had one run. Jay Chiappetta threw seven innings, allowed 4-1, and struck out five.
