Tuesday morning around 9:50 AM, officers with the New York City Police Department responded to the area of 170 Amsterdam Ave and West 68th Street for a report of a person shot.
Four-five teenage males were involved in a dispute, a firearm was displayed and discharged.
The victim, a 17-year-old, was shot several times in the abdomen, ran from the shooting scene to school (Martin Luther King High School) about two blocks away. The victim taken to an area hospital to be treated.
The suspect, a 19-year-old male was taken into custody about a block away after attempting to flee the area in a yellow taxi. While this individual was being taken into custody officers recovered a firearm.
The suspect, who is well known to police, has two prior arrests for narcotics in 2023, and is currently out on bail for a 2021 armed robbery with a firearm.
